Organic Baby Registry-What you need to cloth diaper
07.15.10
by deserea g.
Now that you have some of the cloth diapering jargon essentials down, lets talk about what you will need.
If you do decide to go with prefolds, you will need about two dozen prefolds to start. This will allow you to get by for a couple of days without having to wash. Newborns go through a lot of diapers in their first few weeks of life, so you want to be prepared. You will also need either snappis, or diaper pins. We recommend having a least one to two packs of snappis and about one to two packs of pins readily available when using prefolds. You also need a cover. We have many different types, sizes, colors and prints of diaper covers on our site, so have fun shopping. If you decide on all-in-ones you only need the diaper itself. We have great diapers for you to choose from on the site as well. Fitted diapers are a great choice as well and if you go with fitteds you will possibly need a snappi, or set of diaper pins. You will also need a diaper cover of your choice, as stated before these do require a cover. Pocket diapers are a favorite for people that like to add or take away layers of absorbency. With these diapers you will need a certain amount of doublers/liners to add to the “pocket” for absorbency.
Besides the diapers themselves you will also need some much needed accessories that will make cloth diapering a breeze. We recommend having a wetbag, as well as pail liners to store those wet and stinky diapers between washes. A wetbag is a bag that is made up of an inner layer of PUL, like the pocket and all-in-one diapers mentioned above. These are a must and are highly recommended. Pail liners you can use in a diaper pail. When it comes to laundering your cloth you will need to be careful with what you use. There are many different “cloth diaper friendly” laundry detergents and soaps that should only be used on cloth. We have several “cloth diaper friendly” laundry products on our site as well. You will also need to use a “cloth friendly” diaper rash cream as well. One of our favorite earth friendly products to use while using cloth are cloth wipes. Cloth wipes are so soft for babies delicate skin and can be used in your favorite wipes warmer with any cloth wipes solution.
Today’s blog entry has 2 wonderful prizes! 1 Thirsties Blackbird Duo Diaper in Size 1 and a Thirsties Duo Cover in Size 1 both mango colored.

I use cloth diapers because they are a great money saver, healthier to use (less chemicals next to baby’s skin) and they are so cut and adorable!).
We cloth diaper because disposable diapers just didn’t feel right. Every week when my first was a baby, we’d take out the giant bag of stinky diapers we felt a little bit dirty. We switched to cloth 3 years ago and haven’t looked back.

I cloth diaper my baby for the cost factor- it’s so inexpensive to just buy some prefolds and covers, even if you buy sized covers or wool!
I use cloth because it is the best for both my babe and the earth.
I’m also a fan on facebook.
We started using cloth diapers because my husband lost his job in February and has only found part time work since then. In order to help make ends meet I decided we would use cloth on our newest baby. (born in may) Since then I have fallen in love with cloth diapering! I thought it would be a hassle but it’s not at all. Plus, my oldest son (he’s 18 months old) was constantly waking up wet during the night in his pampers or huggies. Since wearing cloth (I double layer at night) he hasn’t woken up wet once. It’s amazing!
I want to use cloth diapers to save some money–plus they are so cute and I believe will be safer for my little one coming.

We use cloth diapers because of financial reasons. I even make some of our own diapers! Would love to win this!
We switched to cloth just recently (at 8 months) because we couldn’t stand throwing away all that money on disposables. Plus, we’re starting to plan for baby #2, and this allows us to get used to cloth diapering on our active older baby and start up a stash to use when we do have #2!
I want to spend the twenty bucks a week I was spending on disposable diapers and wipes on groceries instead!
I was planning on using cloth at least part-time to save money and because it was better for baby and environment. When my son ended up having horrible reactions to the chemicals in the sposies, we quickly became 100% cloth. With baby #2 due in Dec, I refuse to even use the “complimentary” diapers provided by the hospital! We are starting this one the right way from day 1.
We decided to use cloth on our babies primarily to save money (although the thought of saving all those diapers from the landfills was a huge benefit in our minds). I’ve since discovered that cloth diapers are fashionable and fun!

I started using cloth diapers because they were much more economical than using disposable diapers. My friend, Annie, introduced me to cloth diapering because of her passion for providing her family with natural products. I started cloth diapering my first child and Im’ now on my third! It is now a goal of mine to continue providing my children with natural products in the spirit of my friend Annie, who has recently passed away from melanoma. She did the best she could for her three boys and her family continues in the same spirit. The least I can do is the best that I can do and I strive each day to make Annie proud. That is why I cloth diaper.

I started using cloth because I had intended to do cloth all along . . . but due to unforseen circumstances (see the blog for the goings-on!) that didn’t happen right away, not enought time for the effort . . . we finally got to it shortly after my son’s first birthday. I hated running out of diapers, running to the store and hoping they had what I wanted in stock and that I had enough money to buy them. I hated the chemicals against my son’s skin. I hated filling the landfills with dirty diapers. Now though, we’ve been using cloth for several months and LOVE it! Wish we could have done it from the beginning. Environmental stuff aside, it’s so much easier to press a couple buttons on the washer than pack up the child and run to the store!

We use cloth because it is eco friendly and super easy! But the big reason was my daughter’s bottom was breaking out in a horrible rash since day one of sposie that is when the doctor said we should try cloth and the rest is history. Of course the cute factor always plays a part. Heehee. I am also a fan of facebook and please enter us. Thank you Franklin Goose for everything you have done for many families out there.
I’m already a fan of the goose of facebook!
We initially decided to try cloth diapers when my daughter (now almost 5) was a couple months old after seeing a news story on EC that discussed how much money you’d save not to mention the environmental impact of switching to cloth. We also did some EC with her, but we started with fuzzi bunz and had her in those for a long time, then tried some prefolds and covers as she got older and we were more open to trying different styles. now I have a baby due next week and I’m hoping to try all different kinds of diapers and covers.
After switching from disposable to cloth, I was really happy that they didn’t leak like the disposables did. My daughter was super easy when it came to learning the potty (she was in undies around 21 months) and that can partially be because of the cloth from what I’ve heard. Plus cloth just feels so much nicer and looks cuter
I am a facebook fan too.

To save money, help potty train earlier, and because it’s so many cute diapers out there.
We use cloth diapers because it is better for our baby’s skin, better for the environment, and oh so cute!

I use cloth diapers to save money, to help keep disposables out of the landfills, and to cut down on diaper rashes and the number of chemicals my baby is exposed to.
I use cloth because they are so soft, safe, ecomonical, and clean! And who can forgot all the cute colors and designs I have! Always an added bonus.

We started cloth diapering because my son had sensitive skin and no disposable diaper would work without irritating his skin. Now that we’re expecting baby number 2 (our first is still in diapers!) we’re expanding the stash a bit because we like that it saves us so much money! The patterns are adorable too. I don’t mind letting my kiddo run around in a cloth diaper.
I use cloth because it’s much better for my daughters skin. No rashes with cloth, constant rash with sposies.

I used cloth diapers on my 1st child 16 yrs ago but just had my 4th and haven’t used them since! With the cost of diapers these days and I have 2 children in diapers maybe I can win this and try it and fall in love with it! That would be great to be able to save some money not buying diapers!

I choose cloth because my babe could not tolerate all the chemicals in disposables. And it doesn’t hurt that they are super cute!

We are choosing cloth diapers because: we don’t want chemicals on our babies skin, we want to contribute as little as possible to landfill, they are super cute, provide way more options to customize for your child, and its common sense (which isn’t actually that common)

We decided to use cloth diapers for several reasons… to protect our baby (especially in their sensitive areas) from weird chemicals in disposable diapers. to be financially savvy. and to be a little more earth friendly! It’s a win, win, win!
We use cloth because it just makes sense! We love the cute designs, the money saved, baby seems more comfortable and I really want to produce less trash!
We plan on using cloth to save money, avoid diaper rashes, and just limit the amount of chemicals on or near the baby!

I use cloth dipaers because it’s better for my baby’s bum and of course for the earth….and the money saving is just an added perk:)
I decided to use cloth diapers with my 2nd baby because my kiddos have very sensitive skin and I thought it would help them. I love that they don’t have chemicals sitting on their little bums now. Plus, I love the economical benefits! No more wasting money on buying disposable diapers or wipes.

I cloth diaper to save money!
We decided to use cloth because I became unemployed right before finding out I was pregnant. Initially we did it to save money, but we now continue to do it for the cute factor and the environment!
I am going to cloth diaper baby #2 to save money, because it’s cute and because it breaks my heart to think of all the diapers I have already contributed to the landfill

I decided to cloth diaper because my baby was getting rashes from a certain brand of “improved” diapers, and to reduce cost and trash.
I use cloth diapers on my children because it’s cheaper (we’re using them on child #3 this fall!), they are super soft and we haven’t had the problems with rashes that we did with disposables.
I use cloth diapers on my baby because I was grossed out at the little gel beads that the sposies would leave behind on her skin and it was such a waste of money!
I support anything to better the planet. My mom thought I was crazy when she saw it on my baby registry. Love to read all the responses.
